How can I do a card sort?

Aug 17, 2020

Hello, I am sure like most of you, I am converting an ILT to eLearning. We have an activity that is a card sort.  They sort through 36 cards and pick out 6.  Does anybody have a good way to do this, or have done this? In class, they flip them over one at a time and keep six while tossing the rest.

I am open to suggestions and hope all of you geniuses can help.

Thanks.

Hi Michelle, the interactions that Storyline provides have limits on the number of interactive elements and so I don't think you are going to be able to use the built in interactions for a 36 card sorting exercise.

There could be a better way to present this activity online with a re-design. Sifting through 36 cards in real life would be much easier than online.

The activity could be built in Storyline but would need some JavaScript to build efficiently, allowing users to see each card one at a time, create a shortlist and then select the 6 final cards?

Hopefully somebody else will chime in with other suggestions, but it ultimately might need a different approach for online f that is an option.

I had done this bracket selection for soccer teams a couple of years ago. See here: http://dev.keypointlearn.com/xcl74_SL3/Soccer2018/story_html5.html You select out of 32 teams and progressively narrow down your choices. All of this was done with (a lot of) Storyline triggers (no Javascript). Obviously,in your case, the visual representation would be different, but it can be done.

This is great. Can you share how you did it?

Here is a blog post with some info about the setup: http://blog.keypointlearn.com/2018/04/12/navigating-a-step-by-step-interaction-an-experiment/
