New Colour Selector very temperamental

Mar 21, 2023

Hello all,

Is anyone else finding the new Colour Selector temperamental within Storyline? I am finding that a shape/font doesn't always retain the colour I choose from a palette and I have to click the colour several times or close the palette down and reopen it to get it to retain the colour I want.

See the example video I have attached. I am trying to change the no 9. black box to a lime-green colour. The box changes to a lime-green colour fine but as soon as I go to click 'Close', the box reverts back to black (no Amy Winehouse pun intended!). The black box then refuses to change to a lime green again so I have to choose a different colour (aqua) and then close the colour picker down completely and re-open it to try again!

It's actually frustrating as it's slowing my workflow down considerably - anyone else experiencing this - or just me?!

Here's the message they sent me:

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your video demonstration!

We've logged it as a possible software bug.

As a workaround, please choose a color from this area:

Thanks for your reply Michael - it is helpful. As much as I love the new Colour Selector functionality (especially the ability to create and save palettes), it does feel a bit like it hasn't been tested properly by Articulate before release! Even when I enter a hex value, the shape/font doesn't always retain the colour I want (*big sigh*).

Here's something that worked for me: instead of opening the Color Selector from the Format ribbon (method shown on the left), open it from within the Format Shape window (method shown on the right).

I can't promise that will always work, but it did for me in one situation with a gradient.

FYI: For those who don't know, you can open the Format Shape window by selecting that option on the pop-up window that appears when you right-click an object.
