I am trying to copy a photo - by itself, and tried with the whole slide - and while I can see a photo listed on the timeline and it is set to visible, it's blank in the new file. I have both Storyline files open at the same time.
I know I have successfully done this in the past, do I have some sort of bug going on?
Also, if you're collaborating with other people in your company, we do have a recommended workflow to ensure the quality of the course is never compromised.
Both files are saved locally on my laptop, I also work from those files and just upload the latest version to shared space at the end of each day.
It's good to know about a recommended workflow, and I did get the file from someone else, but this is something pretty basic I need to be able to do regardless of who creates the original file. In fact this is a template file of elements I need to be able to copy out of, this is a huge impediment to being able to get my needed work done.
So yes, the files are saved locally and I am still seeing the issue.
Thanks for the details of what you are experiencing, Marilyn.
We do have an issue reported to our team that we are looking into where some images (though not consistently) are pasting as transparent rectangles instead of the image copied.
We have a couple of workarounds mentioned while we investigate the issue:
Right-click on the image from source Story file >Export>Save picture. Then insert the picture in the story file.
Import slide to the other story file.
I've added this conversation so that we can share any updates we may have.
I just wanted to share that we no longer see the bug reported where copying/pasting an image from one Storyline file to another results in a transparent box outline using the latest build of Storyline (3.61.27106.0).
I am currently experiencing this issue. The only way to copy an image from one storyline file to another is by exporting > saving > uploading to the new course.
I am wondering if this is just me, as it was stated ealier in this discussion that the issue had been resolved.
yes - there is a (new ?) problem with copy paste from one storyline file to another
@articulate: try - open a .story file with an image, mark it, then control-c - close the .story file - start storyline, create a new empty file - double click on the empty slide -> control-v -> nothing happens -> Paste Button is deactivated
BUT now: - click on the deaktivated "Paste"-Button - click on the slide pane
result:
now contol-v and clicking the Paste button is working
tested with storyline 3.71
@articulate again: please check how you start storyline - you missed the correct initializing of the clipboard while start
Kevin, are you using the latest Storyline 360 version (Update 71)? If the issue still happens after updating Storyline 360, kindly share your steps in a support case. We're happy to dig deeper into the problem!
I'm getting the same results as my colleague Eric when attempting to paste an image directly copied from a different project. Here's a recording of my test:
I observed that I needed to click on the actual slide first before I was able to paste the image that was copied from another file. Based on your video, it looks like this is the same behavior that you experienced. If you'll be copying and pasting images from one project to another, you can click on the slide first before attempting to paste the image to see if this works for you!
Amazing that this issue was reported years ago on multiple threads, apparently resolved but broken again! I'm on the latest version, working locally, have two Storylines open, when I copy and paste I get blank images. If I paste into a new empty Storyline it works.
I would export the image and reimport/replace but the image has been styled and cropped so will be very difficult to match.
It looks like there's a possibility that the edits that you made to the image files are what's preventing the images from being successfully copied into another project. I'll be glad to test this to see if I'll be able to replicate the behavior. Would you be willing to share a copy of the affected Storyline 360 project file here or in private by opening a support case for testing? We'll delete it when we're done!
I've tried copying the image with no cropping or styling and it fails to copy into another module project file.
But interestingly if I open a different subject's set of modules which were built with the same templates it works.
It really shouldn't matter, all I'm doing is a simple copy and paste of a jpg image. If it imports, the same image should copy. I've only got 5 modules in this set so I'll work around it.

Hi Marilyn!
We've run across this issue before, and it seems to happen when files aren't being saved locally.
Can you try saving the file locally and let me know if you still see the issue?
Also, if you're collaborating with other people in your company, we do have a recommended workflow to ensure the quality of the course is never compromised.
Keep us updated if you still see a blank image!

Hi Kevin and Jurgen,
Thanks for bringing this possible bug to our attention! I did the same tests as Jurgen but cannot replicate the issue using Storyline 360, Update 71.
Here's a screen recording of my tests.

C & P between stories has never worked well. Import the slide, then C& P as you wish.
just tested on Storyline 3.71
