Replace picture on web object fails

Oct 23, 2019

Hi. I'm want to right click on my web object (set to open in a new window) and 'replace picture.' But everytime I try, I get an error report? The picture is saved to a local file. Tried on three web objects now. I'm stuck!

Hello Jemma welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are running into with your project.

This is an issue that has been reported to our team and we are looking into it. I am able to create an error when following the same steps you described.

I'll add this conversation to the report as we track user impact and so that we can share any updates with you here as well.

When we were using Studio 13, we were able to use Web Objects and Change Picture to enable us to launch Adobe Captivate simulations of software our staff need to learn.

Now we have bought Storyline 3, I have found we have the same issue as this post.

Unfortunately, the Captivate simulation is launched by an index.html file within a folder of published content and your workaround doesn't seem to work for it.

It seems this is because instead of it being Open URL/file, it is now called Jump to, which just goes to the location in the folder and therefore doesn't launch the simulation.  And if I try Play Media as a trigger it of course is only looking for media files and this isn't a movie.

Any ideas, please?

I don't want to use an autolaunch, as I find them rather clumsy.

Otherwise, if we want a slide of intro text, it seems we will have to either :

  • double up the slides in course or
  • add a slide to every Captivate which means republishing them all too

I was hoping for a quick conversion from Studio to Storyline.

Thanks.

I wanted to thank the person who posted a solution to this, but now can't find the post.  Had to do a bit of tweaking to get it to work.

1. Create/Add a button image to launch the web object

2. Add a User Click Trigger to the button for a new layer

3. Add a web object to that layer which is launched automatically

Unfortunately, this wasn't enough for what I needed, as I found that the button couldn't be clicked more than once, so...

4. Add a Hide Layer Trigger to the web object layer to hide that layer after 1 second so that the main slide is now active and the button image is once again accessible

I also had to set the web object to a custom size, as default opened in another tab in Chrome instead of a pop up window and full screen setting always opens the browser window so the bottom edge is under the Windows task bar, which hides a play bar we need learners to be able to access.

I hope this helps anyone else coming here until the image issue is fixed.  Hopefully won't be another year before that. :D
