SCORM File Size Issue

Jan 26, 2023

Hello all,

Reaching out to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I build courses for my company’s training, and we have come across an issue. In order to download our courses to our LMS we must zip our course files. We are only allowed a 25,000 KB file size. We are in the middle of a revision of one of our courses and noticed that the zipped file size is now larger than it was previously, even though it is the exact same course that was originally uploaded. Does anyone have any insight into this issue? Any suggestions are welcome!

Thank you,

Alex

Hello Alex,

Thanks for reaching out!

There's a chance that your file may have cached some items to allow the 'Undo' functionality to work properly. You can try importing all of your project's slides into a new project file to see if this helps. Additionally, you can also try saving your course to a new project file using the 'Save as' option.

If your file size still doesn't decrease, try reducing the resolution of your media files. Lowering the resolution of images and/or videos is a great way to reduce files size. For videos, you can check out a free tool called Handbrake which is very handy when it comes to downsizing videos

If the file size still doesn't go down, you can reach out to our support team here for additional assistance.

https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/any-recent-changes-to-publish-output-file-size-increasing-for-no-obvious-reason

since Storyline 360 (3.63.27628.0) most of the courses are larger than versions before

the reason are changes scaling methode of images while publish

before:
 - most of scaling was done while publish -> small scorm package

now:
 - all image are not scaled while publish, the browser scales it all -> bigger scorm package

if you need small scorm packages - check you images

example

this small image was before Storyline 3.63 approx. 50-100 KB in the scorm package

now, it's 2.42 MByte

=> scale your images outside storyline !!!
