Storyline crashes almost on a regular basis

Jul 22, 2021

I've been working in Storyline quite a bit lately, and I'm having several issues, mostly concerning crashing on an almost regular basis. After working in the platform for a couple of hours, I get a message that asks if I want to save my work, which I of course say yes to. Then the app shuts down. This is without any rhyme or reason, and it happens pretty much on a regular basis after working in the app for a couple of hours. Another bothersome issue is when I start the app and click on a WIP project, I get a message stating the project is in use by another application, which it isn't. These all seemed to start happening after the last update. Any thoughts on this?

I'm echoing this as well as I've experienced it several times today. I came to the community to see if anyone else had an issue. I noticed that it happens when I'm pausing the timeline. I get the same prompt that I get as if I'm quitting without saving. I noticed that when I hit Cancel, Storyline stays open, but if I save it shuts down and when I reopen the changes are in tact so there's no progress lost.

So I don't know if it's crashing or if there's a bug that's confusing stopping the timeline (with space bar) and quitting the program. Just adding some insights.

You nailed it, Jared.

This is an issue that has been reported to our team. I've added this conversation so that we can share updates with you here.

In the meantime, as you mentioned, if you select Cancel on the pop-up, you can continue working without the program closing.

Hi Carl, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

It sounds like you may be running into a different issue.

Do you know what version of Storyline you're using?

  • You can check by going to Help > About Articulate Storyline

We are currently on Build 3.53.25436.0 of Storyline 360. You can read all of the details here.

Also, please be sure that you're working on your local drive, typically your C: Drive, when working with your software, files, and any assets. Working on a network drive or syncing to a network drive can cause the error about "the project is in use by another application" that you mentioned.
