Transparent video working in Chrome on Windows

I got a transparent video to display properly in Storyline by inserting it as a webm file inside of a web object. I've updated the project with a longer video (I finally figured out how to create a transparent webm file) and I showed how Storyline variables can be updated with the video playhead time and the video end status.

This works well in Chrome on Windows. Can someone please check to see if this works in Safari or on IOS at all?

  • In safari on a Mac it doesn't play but looks transparent (is there anything else in the video). Safari only supports VP8 in Its and VP8, 9 in desktop so I think the issue will be same on mobile

  • Now I'm having trouble figuring out if Safari will play any transparent video formats at all. It does not seem to like my .mov file with alpha channel transparency. My latest test demo does mostly work on OSX in Chrome.

That's interesting, Michael.   How did you actually do it?   I've tried with a transparent webm, but it doesn't display the transparency.   Can you share your storyline file?

      Hello Tom!

I'm not sure if Michael is still subscribed to this discussion so I'd recommend contacting Michael directly using the "Contact Me" button in their profile.

  • Tom, sorry I did not see that you had replied but the reply from Lauren came through. I do not remember the exact process I went through, I would have to think through this again. I'll attach my story file here for you. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.
