Assigning a score when sending text from Essay question to LMS

Nov 02, 2021

Hello, I am publishing Storyline 3 course that has a survey essay question at the end.  For some reason, our Sumtotal LMS is not capturing the responses.  When I set up the results slide it asked me to set a score because there are other questions in the course.  I did not check those slides, because we do not want to record that data for completion (just the essay). I set that to 0% because I didn't know what else to do.  I then set my LMS Reporting completion to Passed/Incomplete.  Was this right or should it be passed/failed? Why does it need a score at all if the only slide I have checked is an essay question?

Hi, Kari.

Thank you for reaching out!

When you add a Results slide, are you choosing Graded Results or Survey Results? The Survey Results slide does not require a passing score. As you can see below, the option is grayed out:

I published a test project with one essay question, using Passed/Incomplete, and uploaded it to SCORM Cloud. I was able to see the answer given by the learner:

I recommend that the first step is to rule out LMS issues by uploading and testing your project with SCORM Cloud. Check out this step-by-step article!

If it works as expected in SCORM Cloud (you can see the answer), I would advise you to reach out to Sumtotal's support, as it can be an issue on their end.
