Action Fine Tuning slow any tips?

Hi all,

I am in the process of editing a large amount of Try simulations.

I am using action fine tuning to try and reduce the "death by clicking" effect. However, I am finding that the "saving changes" is taking an unreasonably long time (3 -4 minutes per 10 second tweek).

I know my machine has enough ram and a decent enough graphics card to do video editing etc. Is there anyway I can boost the performance of SL360? maybe a way to adjust ram allocation?

any help would be greatly appreciated as this is really slowing down my project.

Kind regards

Toby

    • more memory does not help, storyline is a 32bit application and therefore can only use 2 GByte RAM
    • important is a very fast system drive, best a NVME SSD - storyline writes a lot (!!!) in the tmp directories on the system disk
    • maybe you could experiment with a RAM disk, you would have to get storyline to put the temp directories into the RAM disk
@articulate: this would be a temporary solution until a 64bit version is available
    • whenever possible - compress all videos outside of storyline (e.g. with handbrake) and then set compression to "None" in storyline
  • Hi Jurgen,

Thank you very much for the quick response!

Thats a shame regarding the 32bit ram maximum, I was secretly hoping that I was being stupid and had left it on a low allocation.

My new machine has an SSD, but my old PC had a HDD so I know exactly what you mean regarding slow write times.

In regards to compression, I totally agree that compressing the video before bringing it in to SL is an essential task and handbrake is by far the best option out there (speed and quality).

However, I recorded the simulation within SL360. I figured that if I export it and then compress it then I will lose the interactive options (Try mode)? If I am wrong then I will be very very happy as this will open up options to easily convert externally recorded videos to sims.

Thank you again for the guidance

      Hello Toby,

Compressing screen recordings isn't a possibility in Storyline 360, but if you feel like your Storyline 360 installation is working slower than usual, feel free to open a case with our support team here and we'll be glad to take a look at what's happening!

  • Hi Joe,

I will do that as I have 400+ slides to edit and I am not enthusiastically looking forward to the edit as it currently stands ;)

  • Hi Toby,

I went ahead and submitted a support case on your behalf so we can investigate further. Please expect one of our Customer Support Engineers to reach out to you shortly.

    Thanks for your patience!
