Adding scrollbar to text entry field in Storyline 360
I have some courses that I originally built in Storyline 2. Some of the slides contain text-entry fields that gain scrollbars once the text begins to overflow.
I have recently moved these courses over to SL360 and the text-entry fields no longer gain a scrollbar, instead the text runs out of the field (see pic).
Is there a way to easily add scrollbars back on to the text-entry fields that I'm missing?
This also happens in a newly created SL360 course so isn't related to converting SL2 to SL360.
Thanks!
Hi Everyone!
I'm happy to share that we just released a new update for Storyline 360!
In version 3.107.35958.0 we included essential fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed is:
- A scrollbar didn't appear as expected when text overflowed
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Dayn,
No news yet, but this is still open with our team and we will be sure to share any updates that we have right here with you.
Workarounds listed:
- Use classic player if the scrollbar is a must.
- Advise learners that text can be scrolled.

Hello, I know this is 2 years old, but my text entry fields are not showing a scrollbar. Is this still an issue with the modern player does anyone know?

I've just tested this and it appears that this is still an issue when publishing with the modern player :(
Hi Debs,
You are correct.
The content can still be scrolled, but there is no visual indicator when using the Modern Player.
Workarounds:
- Use classic player if the scrollbar is a must.
- Advise learners that text can be scrolled.

When is this problem going to be fixed? It's 2 years old as a problem, Reverting to Classic Player makes no sense at all.
Seems like recent updates have messed up text inputs generally. You can't enable a user to delete entered text via triggers either.
It is so frustrating.

Hi Chris,
I'm sorry I don't have any updates to share. This is still an open issue with our team, but we'll jump back in here if anything changes.

Any update on this?
The way scrolling on automatically expanding text fields works is ugly...

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the follow-up. I don't have any updates to share on this bug, and to help you plan; it's unlikely to be fixed in the next few updates.
Our How We Tackle Bugs article shares more on our process. We'll let everyone know in this discussion as soon as we have news to share on a fix.

Hi Ren,
Well, I fail to understand how this can't be considered a critical issue. You can't seemingly produce an input text field that has a fixed height (as would be the case in most instances I would have thought) that produces a scroll bar on text overflow. You can use the arrow keys and the mouse scroll wheel to navigate up and down the input field...but no scrollbar appears to indicate that this is possible? it makes no sense at all.

Hello team, is there an update on this issue? I know I can revert back to the classic player, but I would prefer not to. Thank you.
Hi Agnes,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I can confirm that we are still tracking the known issue where no scroll bars are generated for text that exceeds the height of the text input box. I've added your voice, and we'll be sure to let everyone subscribed to this thread know as soon as we have any updates to share!
