Animation - Sequence by Paragraph Not Available/Working

Good morning.  I am trying to perform simple animations for text to appear by paragraph to coincide with the related audio.  When I select an entrance (fade) for the text box, the option to animate by paragraph is not available for selection.  I try to select but it won't change.

This appears to be the case for all slides in the deck.  I just created a new text box from scratch and the same issue exists.  Any ideas?

Notes:  The file is saved locally to rule out potential issue; the text box is not grouped with anything else.  The items are bulleted and I did use the "enter" key for each new bullet.  I tried, however, changing to non-bulleted text but no success.  I have the most recent version of Storyline 3.

Thank you for any guidance...

Hi Joe, sorry for the late reply, I didn't see your reply. When I copied the slide in a new project, the option to animate by paragraph appeared! I then deleted and redid the text zone and it worked! ...

  • So glad to hear things are working well on your end, Helene! Glad you shared your workaround for others that come across this thread. So helpful for our community!

  • I am experiencing a similar frustration. Some text boxes will allow me to fade in text by paragraph and some will not. The directional options are available but the option to fade in as one options or by paragraph are not available.

In some cases, I have had success cuttintg and pastpasting text boxes slidese where the option is working correctly. In other cases the option disappears immediately or soon after I cut and paste the text box into the particular slide. I am baffled (and frustrated).

Interestingly, on a hunch, I just tried selected "Format Shape > Text Box , and set autofit to "Expand Height" for one of the problematic text boxes. Upon closing, the option to animate text by paragraph was suddenly available.

I'd love to know what is going on here. Any thoughts?

  • My best guess is some sort of corruption in the textboxes that don't work. Usually cutting and pasting also copies the corruption. The baffling question is why it corrects on some of them when they are copied. Changing the format may change something that is causing the problem. Try recreating the paragraphs from scratch to see if that helps.
