Audio delay in Storyline 360 in Preview and in Publishing, but not on timeline.

I am having an issue with a course's audio being delayed when previewing the course as a whole and when published. I preview the slide alone, it works fine.  If I preview the course as a whole or as multiple slides, there is a delay. However, if I replay in review, the delay is no longer there.  Please help.

I'm having this issue too. Either the audio doesn't work at all (button click SFX), or it starts playing 5 seconds into the audio.

    • Hi there, matking!
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear you've run into this audio delay issue! If I understand correctly, what you're experiencing is the audio not playing or has a five second delay?

      1. Are you experiencing this behavior with all of the audio in your course or just one specific file?
      2. Could you share where this issue is occurring for you? (Slide View, Preview, and/or Published Output)

It would be helpful to know more about your course and take a closer look at your .story file. You can share within this thread or you can share your file privately in a support case. One of our talented Support Engineers will take it from there and assist with troubleshooting.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • I'm having the same issue over here. Has a solution been found?
In my case, everything is fine on the timeline and works well if playing on the development screen. Also if I only preview the slide it works fine. (This is the first slide in the scene). As soon as I preview the scene, the audio clip starts a couple of seconds later than it should and therefore all timings are out on that specific clip. (I used the new AI engine to create the voice clip)

      Hello JohanGreyling-c,

The behavior doesn't seem to occur on all project files so we'll need to test your project file to find out what's causing the delay. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or privately by opening a support case for testing? We'll delete it when we're done!

        Hi,

Ok, I think I might have found the cause. My project is very big, so I decided to just export the 1 scene which is giving me the problem into a new project. I tested it and the problem was still there.
BUT then I removed slides 3 to 25 as they were unrelated and the problem all of a sudden went away.
So I re-inserted(undo) the slides and the problem was back. I then tried to remove only some of the slides and the Synchronisation problem was still there with a shorter delay. The more slides I removed, the shorter the out-of-sync problem.

Background: The slides were produced from a Storyline screen recording. (View mode)
The voice-over and some animations were added to slide 1 afterwards.
It seems to only affect the audio sync'ing, other timeline events work fine.
There are no calls/triggers to the other slides which still need to follow.
The more slides you start deleting from the end of the scene, the smaller the "out-of-sync" time.

I hope this helps in tracing the problem. I will create a support item and attach the newly created story(with the extra slides). Hopefully it shows the same behaviour on your side.

  • Hi Nancy,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear you've hit this snag!

It would be helpful to take a look at your file to isolate the issue. Are you willing to share your course with our team? You can upload it here or privately in a support case and we'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.
