Background color in pre-built variable text fields
How can I remove the white background rectangle that appears just behind this text field? The field is a pre-built variable: Results1.ScorePoints

When you're editing a Storyline course, any inserted variable reference appears with that lightly colored rectangle around it. That's done so you know it's a reference and not regular text.
That rectangle won't appear when you preview or publish the course.

Hi Ted,
Great question! I understand you are seeing a white rectangle behind the text field when using variables. I’m happy to work with you to figure out why this is happening! I have a few follow-up questions regarding the situation so I can understand what you are experiencing a little better.
- Which version of Storyline are you using?
- Is this happening with more than one file or is this the only one?
- Are you working from a shared drive? If so, I recommend saving your files on your local drive before creating, editing, and publishing them. This will help minimize any unexpected behavior.
- When are you seeing the rectangle? During editing? After publishing?
Also, would you be willing to share your file here or with our support engineers privately in a support case so we can troubleshoot the issue?
Thanks for reaching out and I look forward to your response!

Hi John,
- I'm using Storyline 360.
- This is only happening in this file.
- No, I'm working on a local drive.
- The rectangle appears in the Story file when I preview it. However, I see that it doesn't appear when published.
Thank you!

It shouldn't appear when you preview that would be a bug
Hi, Ted!
Since this is only happening with one file, have you tried importing your slides into a new Storyline project? Let me know if that helps!
