Captions disappear when timeline paused

Hey everyone,

I am using a custom play/pause-button. When I pause the timeline of my project the captions disappear while paused. When I click play afterwards they appear again. I noticed that when I use the pause-button from the storyline player the captions do not disappear while paused. Is there a way to fix this problem? Using the storyline-player is not an option...

I am using Storyline 360 3.30.19518.0. I cant use the latest version because then the arabic and korean captions are not shown correctly...

Thank you for any advice!

Vera

  • Hello Vera,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are running into with your captions.

This is an issue our team is investigating. I've added this conversation to the report as we continue to track user impact and so that we can update you when we have additional information to share.

  • I have not noticed it before. With my pause buttons. Can you share your file? Working on adding alot of pause buttons to modules and want to know if it is better to wait.

    Hello EL-Heroes,

I see this post is 1.5 years old by now. Is there something new about it?

The issue is still occuring in my SL360 projects. I am using v3.49.24347.0.

For me it is really annoying because I am using most of the times a custom CI playbar that I create with shapes and a play/pause trigger on the corresponding button instead of the modern/classic playbar.

I think it is essential for users that are not using audio (e.g. deafs) to be able to pause the project to read the captions in their own pace.

The bottom line for me is that I have to explain the customer, that they cannot have their own custom playbar and the basic function of pausing the project to read captions slowly or they would have to take one of the two integrated playbars with way less options to style it.

I attached a .story-example just in case you want to take a look at it.

I'd be very glad to here something new about it...

    Best regards, Moritz

      Hello Moritz!

I appreciate you taking the time to return to this discussion and share what you'd like to see in Storyline 360! The original discussion mentioned a bug where the captions weren't displayed when the timeline was paused. It sounds like you are looking for a way to have captions, not rely on the seek bar in order to play. I can see how this would be a beneficial addition. The first step is to present this to my team and then begin tracking what this would look like in Storyline 360. I'll make sure to keep you updated in this discussion if this makes it on our feature roadmap.

In the meantime, I'm eager to hear if others have a workaround to suggest!

    Hi Lauren

Regarding the original topic of this discussion, while working with one of our e-learning developers, we see that there is still the issue of the captions not staying on the screen when a custom play/pause button is used.

Have you found a solution for this?

    Thanks!
    Amaia

  • Hello Amaia,

Thanks for reaching back out for an update.

The issue of closed captions disappearing when the timeline is paused using a trigger is still an open issue with our team.

They do not disappear when using the player pause button.

This conversation is attached so that we can provide updates here.

  • Hello Everyone,

I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 77, we've included important fixes and new features.

One of the enhancements we've included:

    • Closed Captions disappear when timeline is paused using a trigger

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!
