change state of text box trigger isn't working

Hi. In the attached file, I'm using states to display 8 text boxes. The text builds on the screen as the user clicks each checkmark. To prevent the audio from overlapping, the audio is in layers that can't display at the same time. This design works well for a bunch of screens in the course, and for all of the text boxes on this screen except for the top one. When the top checkbox is clicked, the audio from the layer plays, but the text does not display. Everything I can see is the same with this text box and all of the others. I've deleted and re-created it and copied the others that work into that space. I've looked for something hidden on the screen that blocks it from view. I can't figure it out. Does anyone have an idea?

  • Very strange behavior! The problem isn't the top text box. It's whichever text box is associated with the icon that is clicked first. For example, if I decide to click the bottom icon first, that text box doesn't show, but the others do.

That is what's politely called "unexpected behavior." I suggest you submit a case directly to the Articulate staff. You can do that here: https://access.articulate.com/support/contact

  • Hi Maria!

Sorry to hear you've run into trouble with States from your Storyline course!

Glad to see Judy has been helping you. I noticed that you've also opened a support case and connected with my colleague, Cleober. So glad to see the steps Cleober shared helped to solve your issue! If you run into any setbacks moving forward, please let us know!

For anyone discovering this thread with a similar issue:

"After careful testing, I found that the text labels will consistently change to normal if you change the order of your triggers. Try to move the Show layer trigger on top of the Set state trigger as shown in this screenshot: https://sharing.articulate.team/mXuWA7Ao

You can do this by selecting the show layer trigger and dragging it up until you see the marker move above the change state trigger.

You can test my recommendations here: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/a5e5fa75-2d29-4863-8747-0127d69038c4/review
