Chinese font inconsistencies

Hello,

We are currently translating one of our courses into Chinese, and we are having some issues with fonts being inconsistent. In the attached Storyline screenshot, all of the text on screen appears to be the same font, as it should be. When I preview the slide in Storyline, the fonts are uniform there as well. When I highlight the text in Storyline, it says the font is Raleway for all text. However, in the second screenshot taken from Review 360, the text in green is a different font from the rest of the text. Is there any way to fix this?

  • Hi Carter,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this snag. I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience:

    • Is the issue still occurring even with Modern Text Rendering enabled for your text?
    • Does switching your font to Arial help keep the font uniform?

I'd also like to take a look at your project file so we can check what's happening. Would you mind uploading a copy of your file here for testing?

Hi Joe, thanks for your response. Enabling modern text rendering did fix the issue for one of our files with the font inconsistencies, but for our other file the option to upgrade project text isn't there.

Changing the font to Arial, or any other font, directly in each text box doesn't seem to do much. When I set the default project font to Arial, I was able to use the clear formatting button to make text boxes adhere to the same font, but if I try to format the text at all after that, it would revert to the different font. I have attached our file that we weren't able to enable modern text rendering for.

      Hi Carter,

My sincerest apologies, but I think my eyes are not trained to see the differences in the Chinese text in your course. I also checked the two screenshots that you shared, and to me they looked very similar as well. If you're seeing Display Accessible Text by Default where the Modern Text would normally be, that means that your course is already using Modern Text.

Would you mind sharing screenshots that highlight the font inconsistencies that you are referring to? Feel free to upload them here, or in private by opening a support case so we can check what's causing the behavior.

Hi Joe, of course, I should have provided an example in the first place. I have attached a screen shot of a drag and drop quiz slide. All eight drag and drop options should be the same font, but the highlighted section is in a different font. In the other sections, the strokes of the characters have a uniform width, but in the highlighted section the strokes vary in width like calligraphy. I have confirmed that all the text on this slide is Chinese and is translated correctly, it’s just a different font. I also highlighted the name of the font, which is the same for all 8 sections of the quiz. This is on slide 1.11.

Also, I do see the option to display accessible text by default so this project must be using modern text already.

  • Hi Carter,

Thanks so much for sharing this screenshot with us! Very helpful to see what you're experiencing.

I'd like to have our talented Support Engineers take a closer look at your file. I have created a support case on your behalf and shared all the details of your exchange with Joe within this thread. You'll be hearing from them via email shortly.

Thanks so much for your patience!
