Chinese TTS voices
Storyline has neural TTS voices for Mandarin and Cantonese. Which is better to use with Simplified Chinese test? Which is better to use with Traditional Chinese test? Does the voice choice make a difference whether Simplified or Traditional?
Hello JamesWallace-ac
It's great to know that you are utilizing neural TTS voices for your project! For Simplified Chinese, the Mandarin voice "Zhiyu" is typically the better choice, as Simplified Chinese is primarily used in regions where Mandarin is the standard spoken language. On the other hand, for Traditional Chinese, the Cantonese voice "Hiujin" might be more appropriate, especially if your audience is in regions like Hong Kong or Macau, where Cantonese is widely spoken.
The choice of voice can indeed make a difference depending on whether you're using Simplified or Traditional Chinese, as it aligns with the regional language preferences and enhances the learner's experience by providing a more familiar and natural-sounding narration.I hope this helps!

FYI: My Traditional Chinese reviewer tells me that users in both Taiwan and Hong Kong read Traditional Chinese characters, but individuals in Hong Kong generally speak it with the Cantonese dialect, and individuals in Taiwan generally speak it with the Mandarin dialect. They are different enough that one dialect is unintelligible to speakers of the other. I am restricted by my LMS to having only one Traditional Chinese version of my course, so I put both dialects into the course and allowed users to select which TTS dialect they want to hear.
