Closed Captioning

Hello - quick question about including closed captioning in a course. If I have the player set to "off" is there any way to allow a user to access closed captions? OR, if I leave the player on, can I filter things so that the previous/next buttons are no longer an option (I'm using custom buttons to navigate through the course).
