Cornerstone Users: How are you dealing with the incoming 2025 force use for One Player?

Hey all, we use CSOD for our learning experience with mostly Articulate courses.  We've got the One Player force put off until November but we're seeing that the experience with One Player and the Articulate courses isn't great (hello, three scroll bars on one single page)...has anyone else figured out a work around for this sub par experience yet?

  • Good news everyone! Cornerstone is no longer planning on November implementation of the One Player and Curriculum Player

"Thank you for sharing your feedback and concerns regarding the Galaxy November ’25 Release and the deprecation of legacy players.

For your awareness, we are targeting to address many of the concerns raised for Curriculum Player 2.0 and One Player in the November ’25 Release. As these fixes will require validation time, a decision has been made to postpone the deprecation further. We are working internally on a comprehensive deprecation plan and are targeting to communicate it by mid-September. In the meantime, customers will continue to see the opt-in/opt-out options still available in November."

  • Hi MichelleMore006 Unfortunately, I have no advice for the Cornerstone change, but I wanted to let you know that I really appreciated your dog picture donation to the discussion board. But now I need to know their names 😉

Ha!  Thanks.  Those are my working LGD Anatolians, Alice and Penry.

I actually haven't seen any issues - but would like to see more on what is being seen to get ahead of it.

    Thanks

We've been testing it in Stage and as Melanie details below, it's really a downgrade in user experience.  It's clunky to say the least.

  • Thanks for starting this topic! We have seen a lot of issues during our testing. I opened numerous tickets during the last release. Our most serious issue is that when a user opens a course in a new tab to view it in full screen (instead of squished tiny within the little One Player window), the LMS doesn't always track progress or completion. When a user views an Articulate Storyline or Rise course full screen and exits the course before completion they are returned to the One Player. The little window still shows them as being at the first slide. Also, if they complete the course fully by viewing it in a new window full screen, when they complete/exit the course, they are returned to the One Player and it will not update to show the completion page. It might say "complete" on the top left, but the One Player completion page does not update. Our system launch preference is to open all online courses in a new tab and this new One Player just ignores this.

Also, the One Player is not an improvement to the user experience. We also have many concerns about accessibility.

FYI -We've been added to a list to delay our implementation from November to March.

Good to know we could kick the can down the road a little farther.  CSOD is newer in our environment (last few years) but from what I could find, One Player was used in the past to many of these same complaints.  You are absolutely right-it's not a value add to the user experience.  We're hopeful they will listen to their customers and move away from it.

And our second most serious issue is when you have a course that plays automatically, it will start playing in the One Player automatically, and if the user decides to view it instead full screen in a new tab, it will open in the new tab and start playing - while the course continues to play in the One Player window! You can hear the audio playing for the first instance of the course and the audio in the second instance of the course. Both at different parts of the course. Which one is tracking? I wish I was making this up...

Any solutions to this issue? Has anyone narrowed it down to how the course is published, SCORM 2004 or ? Is there a preferred publishing size or format for the one player?

I have been putting this "update" off as long as possible. I showed my training team a few months ago, and we all groaned. The SCORMs are miniscule in the little squished window. It feels confusing to have both the expand icon AND the ability to open in a new tab. The users with small laptops will hate this. The extra blue action button on the right side (that is only specific to the LO, not the curriculum) is confusing when it says Exit Course. When you complete certain SCORM LOs, the "You can close this window," message displays in the little content area, and users will think they are done with the curriculum (even though all they did was finish 1 LO inside it).

Not to mention that if your curriculum has more than 6 or so LOs, the users will have to scroll down to see the items. The sections in the curriculum that are complete do not autocollapse after you complete a section. So many thoughts....

The only solutions we have seen to be most effective thus far involve crying, complaining, and groaning....so nope, no solutions.

I don't know who thinks this is an upgrade. I assume the software developers because it is easier to maintain on their end. Definitely not a good end user experience :/

I am glad they are taking the time to consider these experiences. It is unfortunate that we have had to dedicate so much time to testing these features to consider our learners' experiences. I do think there should be a bigger push to get feedback from learning admins before something that affects the end user goes live. Perhaps having webinars or something where they can gather feedback in a live environment from a large audience of learning admins.
