Custom font errors - diacritic marks (Vietnamese) not showing up in the correct font
Hi all,
I've been testing the new custom fonts feature in Rise in anticipation of translating our content. (Our priorities are Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian.)
Installing Open Sans as a Custom font, Vietnamese text is showing incorrectly in Rise. Many of the character are displaying in a smaller serif font rather than in our selected Custom font:
For comparison, using the same typeface in another program (Word), every character displays as it should:
I've tested with a number of typefaces, and the same characters always appear as the same smaller, serif font. This example is using the Google font Kanit:
Is there a reason why many of the characters used in non-English text are reverting to a standard serif font? This makes Rise practically unusable for translated text at this stage.
Are there any workarounds? Why is this problem ocurring?
Best,
Alex

Hi Susan,
Right now, there isn't a way to customize the label font in Rise 360. We'll let you know if that changes in the future!

@Alyssa Gomez - Are there any updates? I've tried loading several custom fonts and none of them seem to be showing Vietnamese correctly.

Hi Tiffany,
Have you tried the font 'Be Vietnam'? It's worked for me.
You can download it here: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Be+Vietnam?query=be+vietnam
Kind regards,
Ashley

Ashley, it did not work. Each character with a glyph was in a serif font and each that did not have a glyph was in a sans serif font.
Hi Tiffany!
Did you follow the steps in this article when you uploaded your custom font?

Hello everyone,
Any update on this issue? I am having the same problem, with Romanian text. I followed the steps for downloading the Font Family and I applied the steps outlined in the articles posted by Alyssa. Are there any other recommendations?
Much appreciated,
Madalina
Sorry to hear you're struggling with a custom font, Madalina. It sounds like you're following all of the correct steps. Can you tell me more about where you're getting stuck? If you can share a screenshot of how the font appears in Rise 360, that would be helpful, too!

I'm sorry about that. Right now, there isn't a way to customize the font in the sidebar menu. We'll let you know if we add that option in the future!
Hi everyone! If you're using Roboto or Open Sans fonts in your courses, we've just updated those fonts to the latest version. Clear your browser cache to see the effect in your courses.

What if I used a peppa pig font that didn't affect or have anything to do with unikey? I haven't tried that either.
