Customer Relations Management - Rise or Storyline

Hi All.

I have been given 12 videos and asked to have these available for on-demand training for internal staff.

The videos are step by step how to use the CRM - (for new starters.)

The plan is to use the videos as bite-size learning and have a knowledge checker after each video.

I need help in deciding whether I should use Rise  or Storyline.

What do you think Rise or Storyline?

Thanks and I look forward to your thoughts and any examples you may have.

    Consider:

    • Will the activity be tracked or simply provided as a "use as needed" reference?
    • Will the content be updated (often) to reflect CRM platform or version changes?
    • Is the intention that these "bite-size" videos be available via a website or via an LMS?

Without knowing these decisions, it seems that your most efficient approach would be to use Rise, simply based on the "bite-sized" description.

      Hi -

Many thanks for your reply and your questions.

      1. The activity will be tracked and expected to be part of Staff induction.
      2. Yes - I anticipated to be updated often to reflect the new features etc.
      3. At the moment LMS

My current thinking is for the Induction staff they will have to visit all the videos and complete the knowledge checker. Then after that they and existing staff can pick and choose which training video to watch.

I am keen to make the training videos as accessible as possible ( as we all do) and as I work in a Deaf organisation the videos will have interpreters inserted. (I am not sure if this changes your thoughts on Rise or Storyline).

Once again thanks for your reply.

Hi MartinBrown-75e I think that Rise is still the better option for you. It sounds like you don't need any of the extra functionality that Storyline provides (more flexible in design and layout and what kind of content you can develop), as you are primarily delivering videos. In terms of accessibility, there are a couple of interactions that are not yet full accessible in Rise, but it is generally good.

When delivering video, you'll just have to be careful of a couple of things.

I know some people like to make it mandatory to "watch" a video before they can continue in the module.

This is not always a good idea in Rise, as you may have users who will use a text transcript of the video instead. What you cannot do in Rise is and "either, or" when it comes to a pre-requisite. For example, allow the user to "watch the video" or "view the transcript" to enable a Continue button.

This means, you cannot really make these items mandatory and must leave the module open.

In terms of delivering a text transcript for video, you can use either a block that includes a downloadable document (PDF, Word) with the transcript, or an accordion block. These are good options.

You can include video, via upload, or embed video via another service such as YouTube, Vimeo which can be a good idea if you'd like to update the videos independently of Rise (no need to re-publish and upload if the videos are embedded and using a 3rd party service).

  • Hi Martin, I would recommend Rise for this, as the content will be compatible with more devices (mobile). Rise is fully responsive. Storyline scales content (including text size) depending on device size and is not suitable for mobile.

      Hi Sam

      Thank you for your reply.

You will see I have responded to JHauglie - do you have any further thoughts?

      Thanks
