Editing AI-generated text-to-speech narration without an AI assistant
Hi everyone,
Here's a question. If I open a Storyline file which contains AI-generated text-to-speech narration created by someone else, but I don't have the AI assistant and want to make edits to the narration myself, is there a way for me to make edits without AI or do I have to have the AI assistant installed to make these edits?
Thank you!

I believe a lot of AI generated speech can't easily modify another one as it would not have that voice in their own library. I guess the service may be able to learn from the audio file, but it may still sound different depending on how much content it can learn from. If you need to modify actual dialogue and not just trim out lines, you might need to translate the audio into text and generate a new voice from an online service if you are allowed to do that.
Great question, TeddyParvanova-, and thanks to Caitlin and Silverfire for jumping in here.
Caitlin’s summary is spot on. Today, AI-generated text-to-speech in Storyline can only be edited or regenerated if the original AI script data is still available and the author has access to AI Assistant. Without that, the only option is to replace the audio entirely with new narration.
That limitation is exactly why Silverfire’s point makes sense. Being able to edit or regenerate AI-generated narration more flexibly, especially when files change hands or AI access isn’t available, would make collaboration much smoother. I’ve shared this feedback with our product team so they can see how this impacts real-world workflows.
Thanks again for raising the question and for the thoughtful discussion here.

This sounds like a good candidate for a feature request. You should be able to edit any autogenerated text.

Unfortunately I do not think there is a way to regenerate or modify the AI narration. If the script text is in the notes panel or captions you can copy that to use as a starting point, but your only option is to replace the existing audio with new audio that you create.
Even with the AI assistant, you can only adjust the old AI-generated text-to-speech if the original AI script data is available.
