Ending background audio when using the storyline block in rise

Hi there,

I've built a storyline interaction that I want to embed into a rise course using the storyline block. I want to use the background audio function in storyline because I also have sound effects on the course (so I don't just want to add the audio to the timeline as it won't lower the volume for the sound effects). There doesn't seem to be a way to limit the slides the background audio play on so when I add the storyline file to rise there doesn't seem to be a way to make the background music stop - it just keeps going over the 'game over' final slide.

Using an exit button doesn't work because that is for exiting an LMS whereas I am using storyline in rise as part of a course.

Any suggestions would be appriciated!

Thank you

  • Hi Lucy!

It sounds like you were trying to customize the controls for background audio in a Storyline 360-imported Rise course. I'd be happy to share some insight on that!

At the moment, that type of functionality is not available in Rise 360. However, we currently have a Feature Request logged which would allow you to add custom triggers to control background audio in your Storyline 360 course! I've included your voice, and if that feature makes it on our feature roadmap we'll be sure to update this thread!

Once that feature becomes implemented, you would need to set up custom triggers within your Storyline 360 course first and then import it to your Rise 360 lesson.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

  • I am having the same problem as Lucy. I am unable to get the background music to stop playing on the Storyline block in my Rise 360 course. I am not trying to customize the controls at all. I would just like the background music to stop at the end of the timeline on the final slide.

  • Hi Christy!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. I'll add your voice to the current Feature Request we have logged. We'll be sure to update this thread with any news or updates in the future.

If you have any other questions, just let us know! Hope that you have a great weekend!

Has this request been added to the Feature Request roadmap, and has the feature been included? Asking because I don't see it in the Roadmap.
SPECIFICALLY: if audio is used in a block, or in an embedded SL block, and the learner 'continues' on down to the next block, and it contains audio, the way it's been is that there are 2 audio tracks playing at the same time.

    HAS THIS BEEN CORRECTED?

This is a great feature but I'm wondering if maybe I'm missing something. I've added background audio to a course and have been able to successfully "pause" it on specific slides. But it seems that when the course player pause button is used to pause the entire course, the background audio just keeps playing. I'd not used the feature previously because I needed to have slide-by-slide control - so I don't know if it has always been like this.

Is there something wrong with my build, or is this how it is designed? It seems like a pretty big flaw to have an element (especially an audio element) that doesn't pause when the entire course is paused.

        Hi Lacey

I'd be happy to share some insight on this!

Testing the behavior on my end (Storyline 360 version 3.81.31200.0 via Windows Parallels on a Mac M1) I produced the same results. This would be expected behavior as the play/pause button from the player operates independently from any background audio triggers added to a course.

I've added your feedback to the feature report so you can be notified of any changes made! In the meantime, the learner can press Ctrl+Alt+A on their keyboard or turn background audio on or off via the accessibility controls.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!
