Export/Import Resources from Player
I'd like to make a request/suggestion for Storyline 360. I would really like a feature that would export a resource list from an existing project to import into a new project. My use case - I am building a course that is modular and need the same Glossary & Resource entries. You now have the Glossary export/import (yeah!) -- now, how about Resources?
Would be very grateful!

Hey there, Lynn!
Thanks for helping us understand your use case for a Resource import/export feature so that we can take that under consideration. I shared your thoughts as a Feature Request with the right eyes!
For now, one approach to reuse the same resources in another course is to save the original project as a Storyline template. Then, when you're ready to start a new project: click on Import > Import from story template on the Storyline start screen.
Keep in mind that any later updates won't carry over to existing projects based on that template.- LonGoldstein-13Community Member
The template method you describe is of very limited help, especially when building multiple courses. 1) I have to build my resource list when I build my first course for it to be included in the template, it is not much use once I've finished a series of courses, which is when I'd usually start compiling the resources list (which is the logical way to do it, at the end). 2) If I want to add resources or change them, I still need to go back and edit each resources page in each course...item by item (this is the slowest possible way I could imagine having to do this!)
Why could there not at least be a bulk import feature, say from an excel template, like is available for quiz questions? Then at least one could maintain a resources document and just reimport it when needed to each course?
At this point, the best use of the Resources button is to hold a URL to a document externally which can be maintained and edited. The same appears to be the case for the Glossary. I could not imagine entering each item one by one for 8 different courses after they are built. If am missing something please let me know! Thanks.

I would love this feature. Any news?

Hi, Jaime and Crystal,
Thank you for adding your voices to the feature request. While I don't have any news to share, we will be sure to update you when we get new information.

I will add my voice to this, too. I cannot even find a way to export the group so I have a list of resources to review. We want to check the validity of all resources before publishing, and I can't see a way to do this without opening the file and individually clicking each one. Then, if it's no longer valid, I need to copy and paste elsewhere to note the change.

Macromedia Authorware had what were called "libraries," which were external repositories where a developer could store images, sounds, videos, and code snippets. This allowed the developer to both externalize these objects (making it possible to update all references within a course to a given object with a single click, as well as reduce a course's file size significantly because the objects in the course were pointers to the actual object within the library) and to share those objects between multiple courses and developers.
When packaged externally, a developer could update a library, which would update the objects the course referenced from the library. An example would be a company logo which gets updated, and is on every page as a "weather bug" in the lower-right corner. You update the image in the library, and the next time a learner launches the course, the updated logo appears. Note, the original published course file did not need to be opened and re-published.

I'll also add my voice to the request! Our LMS has a Resource Library, and I would like to be able to export PDF resources from the Player in older trainings and upload them as resources for easy access for our learners, so they don't have to go back into a training to view a resource.
Currently, if it's a PDF resource, I can only access it if I open the training within the LMS and download the PDF. It would save a lot of time to simply be able to export resources directly from the Player itself in Storyline 360.

Just adding my own request to this for import/export of resources or an easy resource builder - I've got the exact same course in several languages, have just spent ages adding the resources to one version and was expecting to be able to export/import into the other languages but alas no - very frustrated now to have to recreate numerous times
Thank you Karen for adding these details! It's helpful to understand the impact of this feature for you. I've added your comments to our feature request and linked this conversation so we can update you if this makes it on our feature roadmap.

I'd also love the option to import glossary terms as we build a multi-tiered course and would like a comprehensive glossary containing terms from all 20+ storyline modules by the end of our development. Thanks for considering.
