Free-form question error

I have built (and re-built) a free form drag and drop quiz slide, but when submit button is clicked, this error continues to pop up: "Invalid answer: You must complete the question before submitting".

All the of the drop items are correctly associated with their Targets. I've checked and rechecked all the Question Tool options. Not sure what else to try.

I've uploaded the slides here for your review. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Hi, Michael.

Thank you for sharing your .story file!

The state changes for drop correct/incorrect and also the built-in hover state are all done automatically for you, so you don't have to add those triggers manually:

I disabled those triggers in the attached edited file. Let me know if this works!

  • As Maria pointed out the built in states work without the need for triggers

  • Maria’s change fixed it, because not only do the built in states work without the need for triggers, but they frequently take serious offense if you try to create your own triggers to duplicate their function. It usually results in something not working correctly.

  • Hi, Michael.

Take a look at the article below as it describes the built-in states in Storyline. If a built-in state doesn't exist for what you're trying to achieve, then you could create your own and add manual triggers:

    I hope this helps!

  • Thank you Maria!  That fixed it, but I'm not sure why. Is it because I already set up the correct drop targets using the Form View?

I'm surprised the Hover state changed even though you disabled the trigger. Doesn't make sense, but I'm not very experienced in Storyline.

So, for each Statement, your version has 2 pairs of triggers, (Jayla's expression), except for the first Stmt.  Was there a reason that one has 3 triggers?  Again, how did those Statements change state to red or green or bold without those triggers?

    Thanks for your help!

  • This is all very helpful Phil and Walt.  But what if I wanted the object's state to change in the way of style or accent, not related to the correct drag and drop sequence. Would those need to be built with manual triggers?
