Grouping Button Sets?
Hi All,
In Storyline 360, I have a button set which I want group so I can apply entrance and exit animations.
However, once grouped, the buttons in the set are not working as I expected. When clicking on one item, all objects in the group enter the Selected state.
I've attached a .story file demonstrating these behaviors.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Hello MattOckenfels-c,
Thanks for reaching out!
The behavior you observed is expected because grouped objects behave as one. When you select one object in the group, and its "Selected" state is activated, the same event occurs for the rest of the objects in the group. If you need a quick wait to animate multiple objects, use the animation painter instead. Hope this helps!

Could this behavior be changed (as a feature request) to not treat grouped buttons as one button? I can't think of a good use case for wanting multiple objects and/or buttons to act as one large button. Even if I did want that, I could use triggers to make that happen, whereas if I want the opposite, it's not possible in storyline. Having them separated makes it more difficult to animate, move, and adjust the objects in the timeline together. Also, painting the animation on two separate objects, even with the same timing, does not give the same spacing and timing as them being grouped.
Example: a pop-up or callout with multiple buttons. I would like to keep all objects in the group together so I can easily organize & move them as one, but I don't want the buttons to behave as one:

I don't think grouping buttons, either with other buttons or in a group with other objects, should make the entire group behave as one button. I can't think of a good use case for that and it doesn't allow you to do the opposite (where as if I did want all of the buttons to behave as one, I could use triggers or a hotspot). Sometimes I want a button in a group, in a pop-up for example, but I don't want the entire popup to be the button.
Can this be reviewed for the feature roadmap to be changed?- MattOckenfels-cCommunity Member
I agree. In my case, this grouping behavior overrides the button set's function and purpose.
Then again, there may be developers that have already leveraged this grouping behavior in some way, changing the way it currently works may break existing projects. Perhaps a selectable property for groups to turn this on or off?
