Hotspot question that respects other buttons.

Hi. I am creating a software simulation exam with hotspots. If the user clicks on the hotspot, it sends the interaction and automatically the next slide appears. Also, if the user clicks outside the hotspot, it sends the interaction and also the next slide appears. That´s ok, I want it that way.

But I also have a custom info button that shows a layer with the narrative and data of the scenario ("The client wants to deposit 50 dollars, bla blah..."). But in strict sense, clicking this button is an instance of clicking outside the hotspot, so it´s a "wrong" answer and the next slide appears 😥.

How can I set the slide so the hotspot interaction "understands" that my info button is not a wrong answer?

  • Don't use a hotspot interaction. Use a freeform Pick One.

    • Over the entire slide, insert a shape with a solid fill set to 100% transparency.
    • Over the correct area, insert another transparent shape.
    • Insert your button as desired.
    • Convert the slide to a freeform Pick One question.
    • Designate the two transparent shapes as the potential responses, and indicate the correct one.
    • Add the "Submit Pick One" trigger to both of those shapes.
    • On the Timeline, be sure the "wrong area" shape is under the "right area" shape, which should be under the button.

You can see how this works in the attached file.

BTW, I prefer using transparent shapes to hotspots, because shapes can have states. But there are pros and cons to both: PRIMER: Hotspots vs. Transparent Shapes | Articulate - Community

  • Or add the info button to a layer and then show the layer on timeline start

  • oh! you have a clicks outside trigger, just add a incorrect hotspot over the whole slide and get rid of the clicks outside trigger

I tried it but doesn´t work. I set it this way. Maybe I´m missing a detail. Thank you. In the meantime, Judy´s option seems ok.
