Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I can confirm that we are currently tracking a bug that prevents the image zoom feature from working properly in Safari. I've added this ELH post to the bug report so we can notify you as soon as a fix is released.
As a workaround, please ask your students to view your courses using different browsers if the image zoom feature is critical to the course experience.
