Importing quiz files without excel (but saved as .xlsx
Hi, I don't have MS Microsoft excel.
I have a couple hundred quiz questions I want to import to Quizmaker. I have saved the excel template shared here: https://community.articulate.com/articles/articulate-quizmaker-360-user-guide-how-to-import-questions.
I have then used Google sheets to input my questions and then downloaded it again as an Excel document.
However, when I try to import it says that I must have Excel installed to be able to import?!?!
There is also a text option but it is in a weird format that would require a lot of work instead of using standard tab or comma deiminated csv which I could easily produce.
Is there a work around?
Thanks to anyone with experience in this.
Best regards,
Aimee
Hi Aimee!
I’d be happy to help you get your quiz questions imported to Quizmaker!
You mentioned not having Microsoft Excel on your machine. Could I ask, are you using a Mac instead of a Windows machine?
If so, I would like to share how I tested this out on my end without the use of Excel but rather Apple Numbers.
- I followed the steps for downloading this template and then opened a new Quizmaker 360 project.
- After that, I selected File > Import Questions and selected the template file I just downloaded (import_template.xls).
I've also recorded this Peek to show you my process and results.
Please let me know if this worked for you or if you have any more questions!

Hi Steven, thanks very much for your help. I am using a PC actually but my company uses Google Suite not Microsoft. Normally it is possible to work with .csv files which work for Excel or Google Sheets. I was surprised there is no .csv option.
Thanks,
Aimee
