Is it possible to set the player menu language separately for different scenes?
Hi everyone,
I am working on a training project in Articulate Storyline and have run into a limitation that I hope someone can help me with.
At the moment, the player menu language can only be set globally for the entire project. This usually works fine, but it becomes difficult when a training needs to be available in two different languages within a single Storyline file.
My situation is as follows:
I have one training that must be delivered in two languages. Ideally, I would like to keep both languages in one project, each in its own scene. The problem is that both scenes end up sharing the same player language because the language setting is global. The only workaround I see is to create two separate Storyline files, each with its own language setting.
However, maintaining two separate files causes additional issues. In our SAP environment, multiple versions of the same training cannot be integrated properly, which leads to complications for tracking and administration. This makes it difficult to manage and deploy the training efficiently.
My question is:
Is there any way to set the player or menu language on a per scene basis instead of globally?
Or is this currently not supported in any form?
Any ideas, workarounds, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Storyline only allows you to set 1 language for the Text Labels (that is, the set of labels and system messages). It might be possible to use multiple languages with JavaScript coding.
Here's a good solution I've seen for translated courses:
- Create a separate source (.story file or Rise project) for each language.
- Publish each as a SCORM package.
- Have someone with the proper coding skills wrap all those packages into one big SCORM package, with a starting page that allows the user to select a language. Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations about who does that sort of programming.
Another option I've seen also involves publishing a separate SCORM package for each language. Those are then bundled into a curriculum within an LMS, with the settings adjusted so that the user only has to complete one of the courses to finish the curriculum. Of course, being able to do this depends on the LMS.

I believe the Storyline localisation supports this but is an additional cost.
