Making Interactions Obvious to Learners

How do you signal to your learners that you have an interaction on a slide? I'm a new ID and have been working with Storyline 360 to create corporate-type trainings. More than half of my slides have some type of interaction, but it's not always very obvious. What's your tip to help users understand there is an interactive element to explore?

    Hi,

You could try to make the item or button that starts the interaction blink/glow etc, when the users reach that slide. You could also make an object change (color or size etc anything that would indicate that its clickable) on mouse hover.

You could display a message as well on the slides saying how to interact with the slide at the start of the slide.

There's no one way. I believe it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

  • Hi Angela and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! First, I wanted to let you know it looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response.

Second, thanks for asking your question here! 🙂 A few ideas that come to mind: Sometimes adding simple and clear instructions will do the trick. You can also use similar formatting/design across interactions. That consistency can make the interactions stand out from the content. Also, asking someone to go through your course with a focus on navigation can really help determine if the interactions are intuitive. Here are some resources with more information on the topic. I hope these articles help give you some more ideas!
