Menu - New Headings - Automatic numbering issue

Hi.

Just curious - not sure if I'm missing something here...

If I add a "New Heading" to a menu structure (Modern Player) and then use automatic numbering, the published menu no longer mirrors the SL file.

Example. I have slides 1.6 and 1.7 in Story View. I add a new heading to the menu to act as a visual section and move it (the new heading) above 1.6. I then indent 1.6 and 1.7 below the heading.... I turn on automatic numbering and....

  • In Player Properties - the menu looks as it should - i.e.(New Heading (no number associated with it) - then 1.6 and 1.7 respectively)
  • When published, the Heading is numbered and becomes 1.6, and (1.6 then becomes 1.6.1 and 1.7 becomes 1.6.2)

Unfortunately it appears that "to automatically number scenes and slides in your menu (as they appear in Story View), do this" isn't quite true.

Reviewing become asynchronous as 1.6 is now 1.6.1 and 1.7 is now 1.6.2...

Is there a possibility that an added "New Heading" can be removed from automatic numbering and literally act as a section header?

Thank you.

CFE

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for reaching out!

Would it be possible to share your .story file with us in this thread or privately in a support case? I'd like to take a closer look at your setup.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • Hi Luciana,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I've been extremely busy so have been unable to readdress this issue.

Do please see the attached screen shots.  They're heavily redacted. However you can see in the internal Menu.png how the Menu numbering has been created. If we look at entry 1.6 we can see that 1.7 has been demoted to appear "inside" 1.6 as a sub-slide.

Now if we look at the Published Menu image we can see that 1.7 has now been renumbered to 1.61

So, it appears that the published slide numbering has been formatted using a different numbering level.

It would be helpful if this was a potential choice as unfortunately it can cause issues when reviewing / updating material i.e. a customer refers to 1.6.1 as this number does not appear inside the Storyline file / internal menu layout.

I am hopeful this would be a simple fix to implement?

    Thank you for your time.

  • Hi Jose,

    Happy New Year to you.

Okay, I have literally opened up a new SL360 project and imported all content from an ongoing project.

I have altered the menu in the SL360 interface (as above) and published.

I have attached x2 screen shots showing the continued error.

The Internal UI Storyline Menu ISSUE.png shows how the menu layout is required. Slide 1.7 is indented / demoted to be a sub-topic / sub-content of 1.6

The External Published Storyline Menu ISSUE.png shows how the published numbered menu has converted slide 1.7 to 1.6.1

We can also see that the published version menu Slide 1.7 should in fact be 1.10

Naturally (as discussed above) this is very confusing for reviewing purposes etc.

Unfortunately a working project file cannot be provided. I am however positive this can be duplicated easily from a new project very quickly.

This error was generated using SL360 version v3.82.31354.0

Can a support case be opened please. Thank you.

      Hi Chris!

Thanks for the additional details! I've opened a support case on your behalf so our support engineers can take a closer look into the issue. You're in excellent hands working one-on-one with them, and you should hear from them shortly.
