New feature in Storyline 360: Interactive 360° images
Today we released a new feature in Storyline 360 called 360° images. We think you’ll love transforming any 360° image into an interactive learning experience that invites learners to explore and engage.
Import any panoramic 360° image, pick an initial view, and resize for the perfect fit. Looking for images to experiment with? Try this collection.
Once you’ve imported an image, you can add interactions using markers, hotspots, and triggers to capture learners’ attention and add contextual info to the images they’re exploring. You can create custom markers and add hotspots anywhere on the image.
Finetune how learners interact with 360° images easily. Add progress meters to show learners their progress, and choose how learners navigate through the image to create the immersive experience you want.
Download the latest version of Storyline 360 to start experimenting with 360° images—and share your projects! We’d love to see them here in E-Learning Heroes.

So far, so good with this new feature, but has anyone figured out how to edit the states for markers in 360 images?
In my first project, mouse hovers over a marker aren't showing the text associated with the marker, either in preview mode or Review 360.

I would like to create an image from a very large Excel file to allow students to view annotated cells in various areas of a spreadsheet. I have Photoshop and found some tutorials on creating 360-degree images, but the tutorials focus on images of nature - like the Grand Canyon. Does anyone have suggestions on how I could accomplish my objective??

I don’t think that this would work for an excel sheet. Converting to a 360 image will likely distort and hide detail.

Is there a zoom feature for the 360 image view? Or is a zoom in and out planned? For example, as you spin around the image, you could zoom in a bit on objects. I created a zoom area with my own transparent zoom + and zoom - buttons that works. I imagine a touch device would already have "pinch and zoom".
Hi Jerry,
While you can pinch and zoom on mobile devices, there isn't any zoom functionality specific to 360° images currently. You can submit a feature request, but we'd also love to hear more about what you're looking for. Do you want to have a zoom region (similar to the stage) or be able to zoom with a mouse wheel?

There are so many ways you can use a zoom feature. For example you could have a course on setting up a home office. Learners are told to identify what an employee has done wrong or right when setting up their office. Zoom in on the desk and you see a post-it note with passwords written on it. A printout of a confidential document is sitting on the printer.
Create a course on household hazards. Explore the room and identify items that could cause injury or property damage. Unless you are able to zoom in, you might miss the overloaded electrical outlet just visible behind a couch.
I see zoom as a necessity, not just something that is nice to have.

This is great. I am altering a lesson i am working on changing a new lesson to take advantage of this new feature.
I notice that Storyline automatically creates a variable name for each 360 photo i put in the project. Is there a way to create a custom name for each of these photos?
Hi Michael,
You can rename your variables by double-clicking on the variable like in the screenshot below. You can also learn more about 360° image variables in Storyline 360: Adding Interactivity to 360° Images. Hope that helps!

The feature is a beta feature so I would not recommend using it for any active projects, as it is not recommended.

Should be no reason why it cannot be sued in production work. It has been in beta for a long time and I know a few colleagues who have used it in client work before the public beta.

Thank you Annie.

Is there a way to specify the location first seen in the 360 image/video when it loads?
You can set that by clicking the Edit button in the Interaction tab to set a new initial view angle. You can learn more about it in Storyline 360: Controlling Navigation in 360° Images.

This is great, love it :)
I can see the variables in there already, however I'm stumped on how to set up something along the lines of "change state of Next button when all 3 markers have been viewed". Any tips?

adjust some T/F variable and then add trigger to change state when variables are true, you will need 3 triggers with conditions based on when variable changes

Excellent addition. I already started using it for a building services course.
