Photo won't copy from one Storyline file to another

I am trying to copy a photo - by itself, and tried with the whole slide - and while I can see a photo listed on the timeline and it is set to visible, it's blank in the new file. I have both Storyline files open at the same time.

I know I have successfully done this in the past, do I have some sort of bug going on?

I'm having this issue today (6/24/24) for the first time. I'm working on a project that has 90% of the same elements as a previous project, and until today, I've had no problem copy/pasting from a previous project into a new one.

As of this morning, when I copy an audio file, I get a blank audio layer in the new project, and when I copy an image, I get a "Image cannot be displayed" popup.

This functionality not working is going to double my production time. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: If I copy/paste from a backup version of the old project, it works as expected.

      Hello Evan,

      Thanks for reaching out!

The behavior that you described is indeed strange. I appreciate you sharing an update to confirm that the issue does not happen when copying from a backup version of the project. This points to possible corrupt elements in the affected project. Can you try removing the most recent objects that you added after the version that was working? It will help identify what object is causing the problem.

We'd also be happy to help with this process as needed. You may share your Storyline file here or privately by sending it along in a support case. We'll delete it when we're done troubleshooting.

It's been odd. The behavior was only happening the day of the post. It hasn't happened since. A co-worker of mine had this behavior start happening to her on completely different projects yesterday as well. She found a workaround that kind of hints that it is not corrupted elements within the project. She was getting the copy/paste errors when she would Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V from the keyboard. But the issue would not happen if she right clicked the element and chose "Copy" from the dropdown menu.

The good new is that this has not been happening the last few days. The bad news is I have no idea what happened to cause it in the first place.

      Hi Evan!

Thanks for following up and sharing the good news!

I understand intermittent issues can be challenging to troubleshoot. If the behavior does pop up again, as Eric shared, performing a repair of your Storyline installation is a helpful first step. If that doesn't do the trick, we'd be happy to take a closer look at your .story file and test the issue on our end. If you prefer to share it privately, please connect with our team through a support case.

Have a great rest of your week!
