When you create a Short Answer or Essay survey question (or just insert a text-entry field), Storyline automatically creates a variable to store whatever the user types in the field.
In the example above, the variable is called "TextEntry." If I added another text-entry field, its variable would be called "TextEntry1" and so on.
The text typed into a text-entry field is automatically stored as the variable's value. You can show the value at any time by inserting a variable reference. Use the INSERT > Reference function. Or just type the variable name between percent signs wherever you want it to appear. For example:
%TextEntry%
By the way, if a course uses multiple text-entry variables, it'll definitely help to give them more meaningful names. You can rename the variables as desired by going into the Variables windows:
