Recovered Storyline file won't open

I accidently deleted the attached Storyline file (moved to Recycle Bin, then deleted Recycle Bin contents). A quick internet search lead me to CleverFiles (https://www.cleverfiles.com/data-recovery-software.html). I used the recover software to try an recover the Storyline file. Every time I try to open the recovered file, I receive the "This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened". Is there ANY way to recover Storyline projects like this? Thanks.

  • Hi Melissa,

Sorry to hear about your project file.

I checked it using an archiving tool and seems the recovery software didn't recover the file correctly.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to restore this file to its original state, and since the original file has been deleted permanently, you'll need to recreate the file from scratch to continue working on the course. You can check out Storyline 360's Cloud Backup feature to store a copy of your course online as a way to back up your files moving forward.

Once you purge the recycle bin after you delete the story file, a manual method becomes available via Windows File History or Previous Versions. Right-click on the folder where the file was located and select "Restore Previous Versions" to see if there are older versions available to retrieve. However, this only works if File History was turned on before deletion.

A better software for the recovery of permanently deleted files is BLR Data Recovery Tool, which specializes in restoring permanently deleted files even after the Recycle Bin. This software has options for scanning deep into the system that might recover the original, uncorrupted Storyline project file.

    Hope this will work
