Rectangle changing to incorrect colour

This is by far the oddest Storyline-ism I have come across. One of my team just sent me an email asking the following question:

"when I attempt to change the colour of rectangular buttons to black (from red) - it makes them white! Any thoughts?"

So I take a look at the same file and sure enough, when I try to change the colour of the same buttons from red to black they become white. This does not happen when I choose any other colour just black. The only way I can make the button black is by formatting the shape and manually entering the hex value for black (#000000) in 'more colors'.

Has anyone experienced this new and exciting quirk of Storyline?

We are running Storyline 360, my team member is running an older version of SL360 but I am on the most recent.

I have included the file for anyone who wishes to see it in action. I have stripped it out of the original file and put it into a fresh file.

  • Hi, Kai.

Thank you for sharing those details and your .story file. That is really odd!

I opened a case with our support engineers on your behalf, and I'll be following along as I'm very curious about what might be causing this. You'll receive an e-mail from our team soon!

Thanks Maria, I look forward to hearing what they find out!

  • @maria and/or @kai - any answer for this? I'm experiencing the same issue and it's driving me bonkers!

  • Hi Brittany,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue! I'm happy to help troubleshoot.

I looked into Kai's case, and it appeared that there was a minor file corruption that affected the custom slide master used. Changing the slide master to the default with the following steps resolved the problem.

    1. Right-click the slide and select Apply Layout
    2. Select Blank from the default slide master
    3. Recreate the custom slide master and apply it to the slide to restore the project.

We'd be happy to take a look at your specific file to investigate further! You can upload it here or share it privately through a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.

  • I can't recreate the issue now, but I will try this fix when it happens again (usually happens at least once a week). Thanks so much, Kelly!
