Rejecting Automatic Format Change
Hi corporatefool,
Happy to help!
Storyline does not have a feature that automatically converts "(1)" into the circled character “①.” When this happens, it's typically caused by an active foreign language keyboard that supports an Input Method Editor (IME).
IME keyboards allow users to type complex character-based languages such as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Some IMEs may automatically convert numbered parentheses into circled numerals as part of their character formatting rules.
To confirm whether this is happening at the system level:
- Open Windows Notepad.
- Type (1).
If it converts to "①" in Notepad as well, that confirms the behavior is coming from the keyboard input method, rather than Storyline. Once the keyboard is switched to a standard English input method, typing (1) should remain exactly as entered within Storyline. You can adjust this by:
- Checking the language indicator in the bottom-right corner of your Windows Taskbar.
- If you see something like JP, CH, or KO, that means an IME keyboard is active.
- Switch to an English keyboard (for example, ENG (US)).
- Try typing (1) again in Storyline.
Let me know how it goes!
