Renumbering "Scene" numbers in "Story view"
Hi all,
I have edited the project that im working on a few times and now the Scene numbers are out of order.
Now id like to print the project and when i do that it will print the project by the scene numbers which are not in the right order.
My question is How can i change the "Scene" numbers in "Story view"
I had a look at the other articles in Articulate community and i found articles about customizing the player menu and other things but no one clearly talks about Renumbering "Scene" numbers in "Story view"
So i appreciate if anyone can help me with that

You can change the non-editable and automatically "assigned" numbering of scenes using the index function in the Home tab. Just select the scene that you want to re-assign a number to and click the desired number in the Index option. No more 1,2,4,5,11, in your linked scenes. it can truly be 1,2,3,4,5. Thank you Articulate Dev's.

Hi Arash
it's a matter of cutting the scene in story view and pasting where you want it - then SL should renumber it. There is no magic way to renumber them.

As this post is 4 years old and has had a comment as recent as the last two weeks, and is something I came here looking for an update on as of today. I wanted to inquire if the ability to change the number of the scenes is on the list of items to be implemented by the Articulate Storyline team?
Unless I'm incredibly oversimplifying something, this doesn't seem like an unfathomable request and is something clearly of interest to those of us who have to print or those of us tired of explaining to clients/supervisors why the numbers don't match up when sharing work with them.Thank you!

I'll back up what you said there. I have just run into this problem. After reordering scenes, my first scene is still referred to number 2.

Thanks to everyone for the tips. I am with Scott - I think most of us understand how to rearrange the scenes in story view.
However, the fact that the actual scene numbers can seemingly not be changed makes things really difficult if you work with a player with a menu view. There, the scenes are listed based on scene number and are often out of order (based on which scene you created first/last respectively on their numbers, not based on triggers or the order of the actual content).
Often content is changed/added/put in an different order after the first review through customers. That screws up the whole menu in player (it suddenly goes from what is supposed to be 1,2,3 to e.g. 1,3,2) and means I have to spend a lot of time cutting and pasting slides into the correct scenes and redoing triggers to get the order I need for the menu. Or am I missing something? Is there an easier workaround by now (initial post is almost 5 years old)?

Thankyou Wendy and Matthew,
I think Articulate needs to fix this problem its a very small thing but when it comes to publishing in word as a report its important Hi Kira,
Thanks for contacting us to share that you're looking for a solution in order to change the order of your scenes as well.
The order of scenes in the story view is not necessarily the order in which they'll be displayed in the published output. That's controlled by triggers.
However, it can be helpful to rearrange scenes in story view for better organization. This article outlines two ways to change the order of scenes.
If you're still running into an issue after that then, with your permission, I'd like you to share your project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.

Hi all,
Referring to my attached image, I will like to change: 7 Topic 1 to 2 Topic 1.
Is there any way to change the scene numbers? I understand that you can reorder by moving the slides around or using triggers. It will be very helpful to be able to change the scene numbers after the layout/flow has been finalized. It will be less confusing when I am making sure I am working in the right sequence during checking.
Hi Kevin!
There isn't a way to change the scene numbers other than reordering the scenes. If this changes, we'll be sure to update you in this discussion!

I am having this same issue and am wondering if there is a fix for it yet.

Bit of a late response - You could create a new scene and drag the slides onto it, in the right order. Then delete the old scene - the whole thing then renumbers the slides in the right order.
Just take care not to lose anything - maybe save your file before starting that.

I have tried to re-order scenes using the instructions above and in the video. The scenes play in the appropriate order but in the menu, they retain the original numbers. I tried resetting the contents of the menu (in the player) to no avail. Can you help me both re-order the scenes and have them display in the correct order and with the correct numbering in the menu.
Hi Jane,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are seeing in your project. I see that you were able to reach out to our support team as well and Anna is currently assisting you.

If there is a solution, could you please share here? I really need to change scene numbers to make sure I am working with the right scenes in the right sequence. Thanks!
