Repeating motion paths
Hi everyone,
I have been working with looping motion paths and was wondering if anyone knows of a way to continue the motion path on the next slide without it starting over. For example, I have floating clouds I am looking for them to continue from where they left off on the previous slide.
Thank you!

Hi Audrey,
Great question! I understand you would like to create motion paths that look like your objects are moving from slide to slide. Here is a Peek video of how I would get this done.
I also attached the file I used in the video below.
I hope this helps!

Thank you John! I appreciate your response and the video was helpful! I have one more question...what if there is a user interaction on the first slide which takes them to the second slide, can the smiley face continue from where it was to create a seamless transition? Or does the animation have to complete then start over?
Hi Audrey,
Thanks so much for following up! I want to be sure I understand so I can better assist you- are you looking to have the interaction happen while the motion path is in motion? Please walk me through what you've tried so far.
It would be helpful to see what you're currently working on with your .story file as well. Feel free to upload the file in this thread.
I'm also curious to know if other community members have come across this functionality and could share tips and tricks!
Looking forward to hearing from you, Audrey!

Hello Audrey,
Happy to help!
It is normal behavior for sliders to generate new variables when they are duplicated. This is to prevent sliders from changing other variables in the project accidentally. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to modify this behavior so you'll need to keep in mind to change the variables that are used by your sliders whenever one is duplicated.
As for continuing motion paths when learners navigate to another slide, you can add the start of an animation exactly at the point where the animation from the previous slide ends, and then make use of triggers to chain them. Attached is an example which you can use as reference.
Let me know if you have any questions!

I do not think it is possible to carry motion path animation from slide to slide seamlessly if the user can choose the timing of the slide change.
Only way that that I can think of is cheating a bit a and making some of the slides as layers instead of actual slides. Then you could just trigger Next and and Previous buttons to work so that they cycle through the layers instead of slides.
Of course this has some problems, namely as those "slides" that are actually layers will not appear in Menu, and some things like automatic slider numbering would break and so on.
And if the original slides already have layers in them then of course that functionality will have to be reworked.
Story-file is attached to show how I would do this if needed.

You are the best Tommi, thank you! Seeing how it works in layers vs. slides is helping it make more sense.
Thanks!
Hi Luciana,
I appreciate your response. I have attached my project where I am using layers but in my first version I was using all slides. Either way, the motion path restarts each time a trigger brings up a new slide or layers. If I cannot get a seamless effect then I will just leave it out since it does impact the functionality. However, I ran across something that is more of a problem. Can I ask you that here as well, or should I start a new thread? The problem is with my slider. When I duplicate the slide or layer it sometimes changes the name of the slider and I found that messes with my triggers since they have different names. Is there a fix for this?
I appreciate your help!
