"Return to slide" rather than "Jump to slide" ?

This is an older thread but I am trying to figure out a solution to the same problem. I don't want to use layers. Is there a way to capture the "name" of the slide the user is currently on, so that I can pass that as a variable to my next slide, and then finally program a button to return to the "variable"? Thanks. -Jim
