Revisit Configuration

Hello. The default setting of "automatically decide" has caused issues within a published course. What are the parameters Articulate uses to decide the most likely choice a designer would use. If I am understand the selection correctly.

I understand why a resume saved state would have its place. But for users choosing to review previously viewed interactive content "reset to initial state" seems the safest choice.

I am also unclear if a page has interactive components based on layers it can be configured as resume, auto decide, or reset (when viewing a layer property).

When the properties of a base layer, it is the same configuration selection. So does selecting the revisit state on the base layer set it for all layers on that page? What is the purpose of being able to configure each layer?

  • I'm not sure exactly how Storyline "automatically decides" what to do when revisiting. Here's what I recommend:

    • Keep "Automatically decide" for Question slides. Storyline will know whether to reset the slide (when the user needs to answer the question) or resume it (when reviewing).
    • For other slides, change the setting to ensure it does what you want.

The "When revisiting" setting for a layer can be different than the base.

    • This can be useful. For example, suppose you have a custom menu slide with audio.
      • To prevent the audio from replaying every time the user returns to the slide, set the Slide Properties to "Resume saved state."
      • To run triggers that adjust the state of the menu buttons, put them on an invisible layer with the Slide Layer Properties set to "Reset to initial state."
