RISE - Quiz calculation animation blank with no "Take Again" option

Hello there!

There's a few of our students that reported that they get a blank calculation at the end of the Quiz in some of our RISE lessons. When checking the HTML code under the hood, we can see the code lines for the animation/calculation, but it's not showing in the browser. This problem prevents the lesson from being marked as completed in our LMS.

We tried to replicate the problem on our end and it works fine when we try, but we did receive about a dozen of messages about this from students. We tried to log in as the students and there's no error/warnings in the browser's Console, no error shown either in RISE. We're using SCORM 2004 3rd Edition. It's very difficult to see what's the problem.

Attached are the Quiz settings and an example of what the students are seeing. Do you have an idea what's happening?

Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Was any resolution or pattern ever found for this? We've just done an assignment out to 6000 people and had our first report this morning.

Concerned if it becomes a widespread issue. Our LMS (Oracle) doesn't allow for resetting in progress attempts, only completed training. Therefore our only workaround is to flag the learner Bypass Complete, which negates the point of the quiz.

Interestingly when I did this (which then puts the learning into a review mode, and doesn't affected existing attempts) the issue did not reoccur for the same learner on the same PC.

I believe Rise doesn't have a 'resume or restart' prompt capability like Storyline does when you go back into a course?

      Hi JoeBoss-fb8b9fe,

      Thanks for reaching out!

I have a few troubleshooting questions to get started.

      • To confirm, one user so far is experiencing this issue?
      • Have they tried using a different browser or clearing their cache
      • Is there anything you can think of that differentiates this user's setup from the others?

To answer your last question, a Rise course is expected to automatically pick up at the beginning of the last lesson or quiz where they left off after exiting. We'll look out for your reply!

        Hi KellyAuner

I think my colleague figured out where this had gone wrong. I had tested the course, failed it once (deliberately) and was able to continue.

It seems he'd only set it up for two attempts in total. This can be fatal in our LMS, as unless you specifically publish with tracking set to Complete/Fail, the system just views a failure as 'In Progress'.

Can only assume that the learner who shared their screen with me, hadn't told me the full story that they'd failed it twice.

With Rise-written courses, this can leave you absolutely stuck, particularly if there is a final/closing section after the quiz.

He's set it back up for unlimited attempts and re-versioned it in the LMS, which I think has resolved it.

        Cheers

We have been having this, too. We didn't have reports for approximately 1 month, and then we have reports again. We had a case about this, and we cannot replicate it, and neither can the Articulate team. However, the user will be completely stuck. We have seen this with 2004 4th edition. It was happening a lot, and then suddenly stopped getting reports for about a month, and now we just got one again.

      Hello Carli,

Sorry to hear that the issue happened again to one of your learners. Can you confirm if there's something different about the affected user's setup than the others who did not observe the problem? We can start by checking if he/she is using a different or outdated browser. We can have them use the latest version of Google Chrome for the best experience.

If the issue persists, enable debug mode in your Rise course when you publish to LMS to help troubleshoot the affected users. You can share the debug logs with your LMS administrator so they can better understand what's happening.

Over the past two weeks, we have had a small number of students (4) reporting this issue.

We have been unable to find any computer/browser commonalities between students experiencing this issue.

  • Hello Dominic,

Thanks for reaching out with a detailed description and a screenshot! I understand that the quiz score and "Take again" button do not show up for some of your students.

This is strange, especially when you cannot replicate it on your tests. I'd start by checking whether your students are using an updated version of a supported browser. Regarding the lesson not being marked as complete in your LMS, try using SCORM 2004 4th Edition and Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed as your publishing options and see if it helps.

If these don't improve things, could I have you connect with us in a case so we can dig deeper into the issue? We might ask you to enable debug mode in your course so we can review communication between the course and your LMS.
