Rise: insert link that opens in a new tab
Hello,
In Rise 360, I have insert a link to a webpage. But when the learner clicks on the link, the web page opens directly (not in a new tab) and there is no way of return ing to the Rise.
Thanks for your help
Hi Anna!
Rise 360 is set to open URLs in a new tab. Usually, your web browser will control how hyperlinks are opened. Some browsers will open links in a new tab, and others in a completely new window. Did you notice different behaviors if you try to test the course in different web browsers?- ChristopherW496Community Member
Can you please provide a list of which browsers open Rise links in new tabs?

Indeed, how can we know what action will happen when the link is clicked?
Hello Georgina! As what Renz mentioned above, Rise 360 opens URLs or links in a new tab.
I've tested this sample Rise 360 course using different supported browsers and they all open the links in a new tab.
Are you able to replicate the behavior where links open in the same window/tab? Is the course hosted in an LMS environment or web?

I am not actually having the issue mentioned by Anna. I was just wondering what the expected behavior is supposed to be. Renz' post suggests that different browsers behave differently...
Hi, Georgina!
Thanks for the clarification. You'll want to check your browser settings to see if a new window should open, or a new tab. Here are the steps I took to check my browser settings in Chrome:
- Open a new browser window, type any text in the search bar, and select Enter.
- In the top right corner, select Quick Settings, then select See All Search Settings
- Scroll down to Where Results Open
- Check the box Open each selected result in a new browser window, if you'd like a new window to open.
- Un-check this box if you do not wish for a new window to open when you click on a link
I hope this helps!

But you know we are not asking for ourselves right? Are we supposed to send this instruction to 10000 employees? Why is this not possible? It's possible in all other tools.

Hello,
I too cannot open links into a new browser when I create a course, the user then loses access to the course. In other programs I design in I am asked to select the option to open in a new browser. Is this something you can add to RISE360? :)
Thank you
Hello Lyneece,
Thanks for reaching out!
Just to clarify, are you seeing your course open links in a new browser versus a new tab? If yes, I'd like to ask a few questions to clarify your experience:
- Is your course hosted on an LMS? If it is, have you tried testing in a different LMS like SCORM Cloud to see if the new browser behavior can only be observed when your course is hosted on your LMS?
- Can you replicate the behavior if you publish your course to Review 360?
I'd also recommend checking out the solution posted by my colleague Kelly. The browser typically determines how links are opened so making this change in the settings might help change the behavior to your preferred action.

Hey y'all, just chiming in to say we're experiencing a similar issue. The instructions for the browser settings adjustment don't resolve the problem because it's not a designer issue, it's a learner issue, and we are rarely in a position to send instructions to our learner audiences on how to set up their browsers to accommodate our courses. Would be super cool if we had a way to customize those hyperlinks so we could better ensure the same behavior across all browsers and users. It's been a while, but I know at one point you could do it with HTML; I don't know if that's still true.
