Screen Recording Resolution Issues
Hi,
I’m looking for guidance on how to improve the resolution of videos published from Storyline. I frequently record my screen and import the recordings into Storyline as step-by-step slides using View or Try mode. When I preview the course within Storyline, the simulation looks crisp and clear; however, once I publish it as a video or SCORM package, the final output appears blurry.
I’ve already experimented with adjusting the recording area and pixel dimensions based on my research, but the published output still looks poor.
Any recommendations or best practices would be greatly appreciated.

Hi CM101! I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I'm wondering if you've been able to determine whether this is a Storyline or an LMS issue.
Have you tried exporting your Storyline project as a video at the highest quality, and playing that on your local machine (not via LMS)?

- If the MP4 is sharp locally, the problem is likely the LMS or browser (scaling, player settings, or wrong zoom).
- If the MP4 is blurry locally, the problem seems to be in the recording/import/publish steps (size/scaling/compression).

So when I export the video from Storyline and play it on my PC as a MP4, yes, the video is blurry. When exporting the settings are at it highest as well. When I upload it to the LMS, the video is the same quality. By blurry, I mean it is very low quality. It's readable but definitely not 4k or in the very least not even 1080p.
CM101 I see, okay, to help you get to a solution here, I'm going to move this thread to our product forum. We have a team that moderates there.

I'm having the same issue. It's quite severe and really unusable. Text in the recordings are just not readable.
I've ensured the slide matches the screen recording size. No interactions; just "publish > Video". Very poor quality. If I export the video from the slide (Right click > Export...) the quality is great!
Replay 360 doesn't have this issue.
I've tried to import my export and I select "Compression > none", set to highest quality for publish and the quality is horrid.
Looking for an urgent resolution!
Edit: When Publishing for Web so far seems to hold good quality video.
Publish to Video seems to be the specific issue in my case.Hi @TomStrancaric! I’m really sorry you’re running into this! I can understand how frustrating that must be, especially when the exported video looks great but the published one doesn’t.
Since your right-click Export version is sharp, that suggests the original recording is fine and the quality loss is likely happening during the Publish > Video step. One thing to double-check is that your published video resolution matches or exceeds your slide and recording dimensions. If it’s smaller, the video can get rescaled and text may look blurry.
If the quality drop is as severe as you’re describing, I’d recommend opening a support case so the team can review your file and publish settings directly. You can share your project privately here:

My screen recordings are done at 1080p or 2160p; the slide size is a scaled to 720p. Even if I match the slide size to the exact video size, and quality set to highest, the video quality is still very poor. I think I will have to open a support ticket.
