Set the Story Size and Resolution
I saw a tutorial in which the designer set the story size and resolution to 1024X600 for a project. He tweaked as needed. Is it necessary to change the story size and resolution for each project? How do you know when to do this?

Hi, Beth.
I adjust the story size resolution based on the type of tool or training I'm deploying.
For instance, if I build an interactive web-reference tool and want the tool to resemble a fully-functioning site, I adjust the resolution to 1280 x 1024 to match our employees' monitor resolution.
Conversely, if I include several videos in the course, I adjust the story size to 1280 x 720 to compliment the widescreen HD video format.
It ultimately depends on the content you're deploying and the monitors on which the majority of the users will view the content.

Hi Cody,
Have you tried 1920x1080? I was curious how it compares to 720. I usually set the player to fill browser window and fill the screen anyway, so no matter what the device it fills the screen. I also usually use the storyline default size.
However, I am looking for an all purpose resolution to use in Storyline and Studio and am considering just going with 1920 x 1080 for everything in the whole course - including all photoshop mockups/storyboards etc. I could choose any resolution though. I just want them to be the same in all platforms especially Studio/Storyline.
Thanks!

Hello Beth!
Welcome to the community! The default size for Articulate Storyline projects is 720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high. If you needed a different story size for each project it would need to be changed each time. You could save a template file with the update size, then just import that when you start a new file.

Hello Emily,
Is it possible to change the size once the course has been created?
I need to have a course 930 x 625 pixel and I don't know from where I can change this....

Hi Jean!
Yes, you can change the size after the story is created. You just click on the Design tab, then Story size.
Just keep in mind that you may need to go back and make adjustments to some of the slide items once the file is changed.

Great, thanks for the response! I'll be testing the resolution out to see how it adjusts to mobile devices as well. I'll let you know if I find any issues.

So, how'd that turn out?
I'm reformatting all my projects to 16:9 ratio, and was hesitating between the stock 720x405 or going full HD with 1920x1080.

I am also thinking of going to full HD 1920 x 1080 for all courses. Even though I have Hi-Res Images, the stock 16:9 ratio does not publish crisp images. Is there any reason why I should not use the 1920 x 1080?

Hi Thomas The only thing you might notice is that the markers become very small and sadly are difficult to adjust to bugger size

I went 1920x1080 and so far so good.
I would say make a few test slides and output them to test the courses in a browser or any player just to be sure, but it seems to work fine and the visuals are nice and sharp no matter what size it's being played at.

Regarding story size, I have a more basic question: how do you decide whether to use the Standard Size (4:3) or Wide Screen (16:9 / custom) ? (considering that your content could be fitted in any of those dimension)
What is the practice these days?
Thanks a lot!
