Slide Master and Screen Recording: certain elements don't show

Hello everybody,

I've created some master slides in storyline 360 with a logo-icon and navigation buttons in the corners of the slide. When I apply this layout to a "normal" slide, insert some picture for example, it works perfectly. However, in case I import a screencast (which has a smaller size than the slide itself), the navigation buttons und logo-icons don't show. Do you have any ideas why?

I'm attaching my story-file. You can see in slides 1 and 2 the imported screencast, in slide 3 just a random picture. They all refer to the same slide master but look different.

I'll be happy for any help.

Wera

      Hi Luciana,

I have exactly the same issue. Unable to create a slide master main navigation menu with screencast. I used the same workaround by adding my navigation on top of each slide. But when you have more than 80 slides per modules and suddenly you have to update a button linked to a modified url, it's a real pain to make modifications. Anything in the roadmap pipeline to solve this issue ? I'm pretty convinced we are not alone with this issue. Thanks in advance for your feedback

  • Hi Wera,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Slides generated from screen recordings have their own custom backgrounds, since these slides are automatically generated using frames from your screen recordings. The backgrounds of step-by-step slides override any inherited design from Slide Masters, which explains why you are unable to see the custom buttons that you added in your Slide Master layout on your step-by-step slides.

To make your custom navigation buttons appear on your step-by-step slides, you can try manually adding them by copying and pasting the buttons from the Slide Master layout directly to your slides.

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Joe,

thanks for your reply! That was indeed the only solution I could make out - I was just hoping that there was some possibility to not having to insert the icons manually on every slide.

But anyways, very helpful to know now, that it is just not possible in screen recordings to use a slide master layout.

      Kind regards
