Without seeing the file, it's hard to diagnose. Here are the usual culprits:
Have you checked
- triggers - 'jump to next slide when timeline ends'
- master slides - (if you are using them) advance when timeline end triggers
- layers - advance when timeline end triggers
- slide properties 'advance automatically' is not selected.

Hi Tom,
None of these seem to be the issue. I could upload a sample of the file if that would help.
Thank you
Looking at the file would help to figure out what's happening

Thanks. I've attached a snippet of the file I'm working on. The issue is cropping up in the transition from slide 1.5 to 1.6 and 1.9 to 2.1.
Hi Lindsey,
Thanks for sharing a copy of your project file!
I was also able to observe the same behavior on my end. I was able to control the advancing of the slide by enabling the feedback layers for the slide, but I understand that you prefer to have no feedback layers for your slides.
I opened a support case on your behalf so we can have our support team take a look at your project file to check what's happening. Someone will be in touch with you shortly!
