Storyline Modern Player: Menu behaviour

Hi all,

I've been looking at a colleague's Storyline build via "Preview" which I was viewing through screenshare and they have the player menu in the Modern player appearing as an overlay to the player instead of appearing within the side bar on the left/right.

To put this another way, when I open the menu in my own projects, the menu appears in the sidebar and the slide portion of the player will scale down to accommodate the visibility of the menu.

In my colleague's project, the slide part of the player does not scale down. Instead, it dims and the menu is displayer over the top of the player - but the option for the menu has not been moved out of the side bar section in the player options. Essentially, as far as I could tell, their player settings were identical to my own (pulled mine up to do a literal side-by-side comparison in every tab of the player settings).

I cannot, for the life of me, find an option to this effect anywhere in the player settings. However, in the published version on Review 360, the player menu is behaving as it does in my projects.

Is there an option somewhere that I've missed, or is this a feature that was available in an older version of Storyline? I'm currently on the July 1, 2025 (Build 3.101.34961.0).

Kind regards,

Sam

  • Their is a mobile UI if the screen size is small this will activate could that be what you are seeing, you can fake this by scaling the window or even in the player properties by scaling the window.

Thank you for the reply. I've had a look and yes, that is exactly it. Couldn't do it in preview, but when scaling down the player properties window, the behaviour made an appearance.

What you said made me think, upon reflection, that the colleague was on a very small screen comparative to my own - the scaling of the slide and panels of the Storyline UI gave this away.

      Problem solved, thanks again.
