Storyline Translation document missing ALT text
Hello,
I am currently working on getting a course to our translators and have noticed at times the Alt text for images and button states are missing. It seems to be random. Sometimes the alt text is included in the document and sometimes it is not, even though the image has an alt text and the "image is visible to accessibility tools" checkmark is on.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is this a known bug? This is not the first time I use this function but this is the first time I notice missing alt text. Has something changed in the last 6 months?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Hello Nicole,
Happy to assist!
We are currently not aware of any issues that cause the ALT text to disappear for existing objects in a slide, so we'll need to test the behavior to identify the cause.
First, make sure that you are working locally when making changes to your project file. This will help make sure that all the changes your doing on your projects get saved properly. If you're already working locally, try doing a repair of your Storyline 360 installation.
If the issue persists after doing a repair, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
Additionally, please make a short recording of your experiencing the behavior, so we can attempt to replicate it using your project file. Here's how.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Joe - thanks for the response. The alt text is not disappearing in the storyline file but when I export the file for translation the alt text is not appearing in the word document (even though it is in the storyline file).
Hello Nicole,
Thanks for the clarification, and my apologies for the oversight.
I tested the behavior using NVDA and here are my observations:
- The translation document contains the ALT text for shapes that do not have text.
- The translation document contains the printed text for shapes that do not have text.
- Screen readers read the ALT text for shapes that do not have any text.
- Screen readers read the text that is written on the shape when present.
With that being said, can I ask if you have any objects without text that do not have their ALT text included in the exported translation file? If yes, please feel free to share the file so we can take a look at it.
